The dream was finally turning into&nbsp;reality. The moment I received&nbsp;my&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmu.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Manchester Metropolitan University<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;offer, everything felt new and exciting &#8211; a new country, a new life. But very quickly, reality kicks in. You start asking yourself questions no one has really prepared you to answer-&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Where am I going to live? Will I be able to manage everything?&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And&nbsp;that\u2019s&nbsp;exactly what most students struggle with. This is the best time to start asking yourself what the perfect fit for you. Trust&nbsp;me&nbsp;this one decision can entirely change your lifestyle, growth and will rewrite your&nbsp;<strong>study abroad&nbsp;UK<\/strong>&nbsp;chapter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I started getting deeper into this, I came to know that there are&nbsp;different types&nbsp;of&nbsp;accommodation- <strong>student hall<\/strong>, <strong>student&nbsp;accommodation<\/strong>&nbsp;and <strong>private accommodation<\/strong>. I became an Architect by day and a researcher by night.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Living_Within_the_Campus_Fabric\"><\/span><strong>Living Within the Campus Fabric-<\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When I started researching, student accommodation was quite intimidating due to its proximity to the campus.&nbsp;There\u2019s&nbsp;something very seamless about living within or close to the university. The boundaries between academic and personal life&nbsp;almost dissolve.&nbsp;You\u2019re&nbsp;not \u201cgoing\u201d to university&#8211;you\u2019re&nbsp;already a part of it. From the architect&#8217;s point of view, these accommodations are clearly designed for student interaction. Shared kitchens,&nbsp;corridors&nbsp;and&nbsp;common areas&nbsp;become informal social spaces. You end up meeting people without planning to;&nbsp;while cooking, doing laundry, or just passing by. This is the perfect environment for the introvert to start&nbsp;their&nbsp;international journey. This setup makes it very easy to meet students from different&nbsp;background, courses, countries and learn something new on&nbsp;day-to-day basis. You are practically living&nbsp;in&nbsp;the college campus-reliving your student life again.&nbsp;The life everyone&nbsp;should experience at least once in their lifetime.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another aspect that stood out to me was the simplicity of living. Utilities,&nbsp;internet,&nbsp;maintenance,&nbsp;everything is integrated into the system. When&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;moving internationally, this kind of clarity makes&nbsp;a huge difference. It allows you to focus on settling in rather than managing&nbsp;logistics.&nbsp;The process&nbsp;of securing&nbsp;a place in a university hall is straightforward, but timing and awareness are key. If you are late for it, then you might not get your preferred accommodation.&nbsp;At the same time, I was aware that such environments&nbsp;have&nbsp;limited privacy. The same openness that encourages interaction can sometimes feel overwhelming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Experiencing_the_City_Through_Private_Housing\"><\/span><strong>Experiencing the City Through Private Housing-<\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Private accommodation, on the other hand,&nbsp;felt like stepping&nbsp;outside the university bubble. As I&nbsp;researched for&nbsp;private accommodation, I came to know that Manchester offers student private accommodation and private accommodation. Interesting,&nbsp;isn\u2019t&nbsp;it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student private accommodation is something between the university halls and&nbsp;privat&nbsp;&nbsp;accommodation. The key difference is that student private accommodation is not managed by the university authorities and can be little far but walkable distances from the university, often not within the campus boundary. These often&nbsp;offers&nbsp;common study rooms, gathering areas, conduct student friendly events. This differs from accommodation to accommodation. This kind is also sometimes cheaper than student&nbsp;halls&nbsp;and you get what you book, unlike university halls which solely rely on first come first serve basis for the preferences. The key factor is only students are allowed to live in this accommodation and often&nbsp;conducts&nbsp;interaction events to&nbsp;bring&nbsp;all the students together. An accommodation full of students yet offering privacy, this feels like the perfect solution for me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Private accommodation, on the other hand,&nbsp;felt like stepping&nbsp;outside the university bubble. You are no longer just a student within a campus ecosystem, but a resident within the city. The scale changes. The surroundings change. Your daily experience becomes less curated and more real. Architecturally, this interested me in&nbsp;a different way. Private housing offers more variation; different building typologies,&nbsp;neighbourhood&nbsp;characters, and spatial qualities. Whether&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;a compact apartment or a shared house, the space feels more personal and adaptable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sense of independence comes with it followed by the responsibilities to manage your own routines,&nbsp;rent, bills, maintenance. This makes you aware of how everyday system work and somehow you start getting into the UK\u2019s societal norms! I also&nbsp;realised, if smartly chosen-especially closer to university or city&nbsp;centre&nbsp;then this type will help me stay connected to campus as well as city life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.universityliving.com\/files\/1776834953697victoriapointmanchester.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24762\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Navigating_the_Decision\"><\/span><strong>Navigating the Decision-<\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u00a0I found challenging\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0understanding the difference between these options but navigating the information around them. There are so many listings, so many variables-location, cost, facilities,\u00a0contracts,\u00a0\u00a0that\u00a0it becomes difficult to make a clear decision, especially when\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0doing it remotely. I\u00a0knocked\u00a0many doors online, enquiring about it to different providers, questioning their authenticity. Finally, I received a reply from\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityliving.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University Living<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0checking if I need\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityliving.com\/united-kingdom\/city\/manchester\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">student\u00a0accommodation\u00a0Manchester<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0Who knew, this call would make my life much easier. The best part was one&nbsp;website,&nbsp;one provider had all these accommodation types to offer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I eventually understood was, this choice is less about which&nbsp;option&nbsp;is \u201cbetter\u201d and more about what kind of experience I want to have.&nbsp;University accommodation offers a more connected, immersive environment- especially valuable when&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;new.&nbsp;Private accommodation offers independence and&nbsp;a deeper&nbsp;engagement with the city.&nbsp;Fortunately, I ended up booking&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityliving.com\/united-kingdom\/manchester\/property\/victoria-point\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Victoria Point,&nbsp;Manchester<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;which&nbsp;offers a balance of university accommodation and private accommodation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being an architect, I found it fascinating to&nbsp;observe&nbsp;how different spatial setups directly influence&nbsp;behaviours&nbsp;&#8211; how proximity and layout influence routines and how context shapes&nbsp;belonging.&nbsp;And one thing that surprised me was the cost. It defines how you start your day, how you meet people, how you navigate the city, and how comfortable you feel in a completely\u00a0new environment. For\u00a0me\u00a0understanding this system in detail with factors like cost,\u00a0location\u00a0and amenities filtered my decision. I finally <strong>booked the student private\u00a0accommodation via University Living<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The type of accommodation will always depend on one\u2019s personality, the life one wants to experience. There is no competition-no better or worse, just&nbsp;the different&nbsp;experiences.&nbsp;And one practical thing I would strongly suggest? Start early. The good options, especially in cities like Manchester, get taken quickly.
