I moved to the UK last September as a student, and everything was new to me. When I arrived, I made a transaction and calculated how much I had spent in pounds before converting it into INR. I was amazed, shocked, and disappointed by how much money I was spending on basic things. Everything felt so expensive, from transport and groceries to basic necessities and many more things.

That’s when I got to know that the UK has different apps and codes for student discount in Leeds. You will find discounts everywhere for students in the UK. It is just up to you to remember to use them at the right time and in the right place.

If you are a student moving abroad, specifically to Leeds, I have some great information for you. Here are some student discounts in Leeds that will help you save a lot of money while living in student accommodation in UK.

UNiDAYS & Student Beans Apps

These are the two apps I check first whenever I go shopping or plan to spend money.

Both apps offer student discounts in Leeds on food delivery and takeaway, clothing, beauty products, technology, and more.

It’s always worth checking these apps before spending money directly. There is always something that can help you save.

Food Discounts

Leeds has so many restaurants and cafés that offer discounts and deals exclusively for students. These might be 20% or 30% off, which can make a big difference to your budget.

There are so many options. For example, when you order for the first time from Uber Eats, you might find a discount code on UNiDAYS that gives you 30% off when you spend £15 or more. You can also find offers on the Domino’s Pizza app, as well as deals at Starbucks and Black Sheep Coffee shops, with some options starting from £2.

There are many more discounts available, too. Even when you go out for lunch or dinner, you might find student discounts in Leeds. You can either ask at the restaurant directly or look for coupon codes in student discount apps.

One thing to remember is that some discounts are available only on specific days of the week, so always check the terms before making a purchase.

Supermarket & Grocery Discounts

There are many grocery stores where you can find offers and affordable groceries, such as Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Poundland, Morrisons, and Tesco.

Every grocery store has a reduced section where items are available at lower prices. Checking these sections can help you save money on your weekly shopping.

If you are staying in student accommodation in Leeds, you can also buy groceries together with your flatmates and split the bills between yourselves. This is a simple way to reduce your expenses while making the most of your student budget.

Cinema, Activities & Things to Do

As a student, you don’t always have to be boring or just visit Tesco and return to your room. Your weekends can be fun, too. It’s just about how you decide to spend them.

There are various activities, including bowling and cinema visits, where you can get student discounts in Leeds. So, if you have a free weekend, search for the student discounts available and make a plan.

Whether you are studying at Leeds Beckett University or another university in the city, you can explore different activities without spending too much money. Just remember to check for student offers before booking your tickets.

Transport Discounts

If you regularly travel around Leeds or travel outside the city, check whether you are eligible for student discounts in Leeds.

There are different discounts available on railcards depending on factors such as your age and travel needs. This is especially important for international students whose university is far from their accommodation, whose jobs are away from where they live, or who love travelling to explore new places.

Because, trust me, travelling is very expensive in the UK!

For example, if you live in Burley road accommodation and need to travel regularly to your university or explore other cities, checking available travel discounts can help you manage your transport expenses.

Before buying a travel ticket, compare the available options and check whether a railcard or another travel pass could help you save money.

Student Discounts in Leeds on Shopping

If you love shopping, it might be a bit dangerous for your bank account!

There are various shops around the city centre, Trinity Leeds, and other shopping areas in the city. Before going shopping, check for offers on apps for student discounts in Leeds and ask about available discounts at the store.

You might find discounts on clothing, beauty products, technology, and other essentials. Even a small discount can make a difference when you are trying to stick to a monthly budget.

And my biggest rule?

A discount doesn’t mean you have to buy it.

Saving £10 on something you didn’t need is still spending £40 you didn’t need to spend.

University Societies & Student Events

One of the easiest ways to save money is through student events.

At university events, you can get discount coupons for various restaurants and bars. Not only that, but there are also plenty of freebies and gifts available at university events.

Especially when you’re new to Leeds, university events can be a great way to get out and explore without constantly spending money.

Whether you are attending society meetups, joining campus activities, or participating in student events, keep an eye out for free activities and special offers.

If you are new to the city and searching for student housing in Leeds, joining university societies and attending events can also help you meet new people and settle into student life.

My Golden Rule as an International Student

I have one golden rule as an international student coming to the UK:

Before you buy something, always ask:
