We live in a world where there’s so much stress, and we accept it because many of us are unaware of the damage its doing to our overall health.

It’s important to know about its symptoms and how to beat stress.

Did you know that there are two types of stress?

Short-term stress can last for a short period, while long-term stress can keep happening.

We are all different individuals, and while some of us can handle stress and turn it into a short-term one, the rest of us have less willpower and motivation to keep it off our minds. But that’s okay.

The important point is recognising the stress and its causes. When you realise that it’s hampering your physical and mental health, you need to address the issue.

Let’s take baby steps.

Stress Symptoms, Signs, and Causes

Physical signs of stress symptoms

This is a type of stress that affects your physical body, such as the feeling of:

Low energy and insomnia

Stress can cause fatigue and disruptions in sleep, which can lead to a decrease in energy. It is one of the signs of stress symptoms. It leads to insomnia and hampers your activity due to low estrogen. It is because your mind wanders into thoughts and keeps you awake all night.

Depression

Stress is the number one cause of depression, as people lose the motivation to do anything in life. The study found that around 800+ women suffer from depression, which is associated with stress. The other cause of depression also stems from age, family history, environmental factors, medications, illness, etc.

Changes in libido

It is one of the signs of stress for women, as their sex drive changes during this period. For instance, a study shows that women with high chronic stress are more likely to be less aroused by watching erotic movies as compared to those with lower stress levels.

Symptoms of stress in women: signs and tips to manage stress

Headaches: Stress leads to fatigue, insomnia, skin problems, stomach issues, and no interest in things.

Emotional: As women, you know that they tend to be emotional, and with stress added to their lives, it leads to so many mixed feelings like anger, frustration, moodiness, etc.

Mental: Due to deep stressful thoughts, it leads to a lack of focus, forgetfulness, worry, and negative thinking.

Symptoms of stress in men: signs and tips to manage stress

Headaches: It is a common sign of stress for men. Stress affects the lifestyle of any person, and a poor lifestyle can lead to low energy, etc, that causes severe headaches in a person.

Behaviour: It is a major symptom of stress and tiredness. Men usually let out their emotions through the behaviours of overeating, undereating, misuse of alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc.

Psychological: It is another sign of stress in men, leading to anxiety, depression, anger, and restlessness. Stress is one of the causes of mental health in men, or anyone, for that matter.

Physical effects of stress on the  physical body

Acne

Acne is one of the biggest signs of stress and anxiety. Studies have found that it is highly associated with people who are easily stressed out. Due to a lack of sleep, an imbalanced diet, and hormones, there is a breakout of acne.

Migraines

Stress contributes to headaches and migraines, a condition characterised by pain in the neck, face, and head regions. Lack of energy and dehydration lead to severe pain in these areas.

Digestive pain

Stress hits the gut badly and affects digestive issues like heartburn, constipation, diarrhoea, and other disorders. And, if you already suffer from IBS, it can have a chronic effect.

Top 6 tips for reducing stress

If you want to beat that stress and get back on track, these stress busters can help you in reducing stress.

Stay active

Being active here doesn’t only mean you need to do hard-core exercise; try to get active in anything that can keep your mind off things. When your body and mind are active, they work and sync together to stay active and make you forget your stress during that period. We are not claiming this is the solution, but taking these small steps and working on them can become one of your habits. That’s when exercise starts your life through walking, cardio, etc.

Keep a balanced diet

Diet is one of the most important sources of keeping up with the energy level. When one is stressed, it’s understandable that one loses appetite for eating, and ends up overeating or undereating. But, if it helps, try eating small meals and keep your diet on fruits, vegetables, nuts, proteins, etc.

Stay positive and take control of your thoughts

Yes, it is easier said than done. But if you cannot do anything about your problem, why take the stress? By stressing, nothing is going to change, but thinking of overcoming the issue can happen only when you are in the right mindset.

Meditate

Mediation has been one of the best ways to keep away the signs of stress and anxiety. It is a slow process, but you can take 5 minutes a day to sit, think, and reflect on your life. Meditate and manifest for a better life; focus on the present; and pray to the universe to help you get through this phase of life.

Meet and socialise

It’s never an easy time to talk to people when you are in a state of stress. But venting and talking to your friends and family can help you see things differently. You do not have to take their opinion, but connecting and talking or knowing you have a good support system can ease your troubles.

Try volunteer work

They say that when you help others, you are yourself and heal yourself. Take some time off your thoughts and spend time volunteering or helping with community work.  It can be for kids, animals, or those who need help to stay alive. This is the best way to heal.

How to help children manage their stress

There is also a sign of stress or anxiety in children and teens, which can show in several ways:

  • Behaviour
  • Insomnia
  • Eating habits
  • Getting sick often
  • Emotional triggers

By recognising these signs of stress and anxiety, parents can help keep in check:

  • Sleep timings
  • Fun time
  • Communication
  • Exercise
  • Keeping journals
  • Motivation

End note: Stay positive, pray, take baby steps, and keep pushing yourself. Believe in yourself!
