“Life is not a bed of roses.”

If we want to achieve success in life, we have to overcome many challenges. In the end, it leads to dreams and goals.

As an international student, you are lucky to be one of the many students who get this opportunity. We know being in another country is challenging, but there are ways of overcoming them.

So, don’t be down about how things are at the moment; look at the brighter side of life.

And we will help you and guide you through your difficulties with these tips below. Let’s talk about your challenges and their solutions:

Language Barrier

The English language is easy to understand and communicate. But if you are in places with strong accents, it can be overwhelming to hear them for the first time. And it’s okay. The best way to learn and understand is by socializing more with the local students. When you get free time, practice your communication skills; read, write, learn more, etc.

Culture Shift or Culture Shock

More than half of international students experience a difference in culture. You may feel isolated, lonely, homesick, etc.  It’s advisable to talk to other international students. There’s a support group to help you. Stay in touch with family and friends and mingle more. It will take some time to adjust, but you will get there!

Making friends

It is a universal challenge. If you have a hard time making friends, join some clubs, or societies of your interest. You will meet like-minded students who are looking to make friends in a new country.

Finding accommodation

Finding accommodation can be a daunting journey. But, you can find all types of student accommodations now online. Whether it’s managed student housing, rent, university dorms, etc. There is a list of services that will support you in this process.

Knowing and finding places

New country, new area..anyone can get anxious. But eventually, you get used to it and get accustomed to the new place. If you cannot find any location, you know better than anyone to use Google Maps.

Finding a part-time job

Many countries allow you to work while studying. Finding a job at first is difficult, but it’s all about being proactive and patient. You can find out about jobs at your student career department, on social media, at agencies, etc.

Managing Finance

Money is the essence of life. Living in another country as a student might be pricey. But once you have covered your rent, groceries, and utilities, you can always stay on budget. Try to get public transportation, save money from part-time work, and lay low on going to cafes, restaurants, etc.

Difficult to establish a study-work-balanced life

Many of you study and work to meet your expenses. In most cases, you may work a physically demanding job with low wages. It can lead to a low focus on studies. But there is plenty of work out there that does not require all of your physical time. There are online jobs that you can apply for as a fresher too.

Family distance

Staying away from family is challenging. You may feel distant as you are not close to them and help with their problems. This may interfere with your studies. The solution is to communicate with your family daily and have conversations to lighten their hearts.

There are many challenges you will face in life. Take small steps, stay positive, and remember to excel in your studies and meet your dreams and goals.
