Leicester is a city and county of Leicestershire, England, and the 10th largest city in the UK.

It is also ranked as the 4th vibrant city in the UK taking over Edinburgh, Leeds, Bristol, and London.

Is it a great city for students?

Leicester is a multicultural city with a diverse student population from all over the world.

As per NatWest, it is listed as the top 10 most affordable student cities based on rent, food, and entertainment. 

It is also one of the safest cities to live and study in the UK.

On average, the cost of living in Leicester will cost £675.2 per month excluding rent and tuition fees.

However, the cost of your living will depend upon your lifestyle altogether. 

Before we list the details of the cost of living in Leicester,  let’s summarize its cost.

Student Accommodation Costs 

Student accommodation in Leicester is easy to find as per your needs and budget. There are three types of accommodation you can choose from the following. Below are the types of student accommodation available in Leicester.

Student Housing

Student housing also known as PBSA, are privately owned buildings. This type of housing offers students rooms, which can be shared or occupied alone and inclusive of utility bills. It is close to the university with modern amenities. 

Most of the accommodations are at a distance of 0.5 miles. While the ones outside of the city center are only 5 miles.

Private Apartment

A private Apartment is a type of student accommodation where students can rent the apartment alone or share with flatmates. It comes with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, common space, modern amenities, spacious space etc.

Most of the accommodations are at a distance of 0.2 miles. While the ones outside of the city center are only 5 miles.

University Halls

University Halls provide accommodation for students on campus. They offer many types of rooms, some universities include utility bills while others may not include them. Please check with your university.

Food

Leicester is an affordable city, but bear in mind when you eat food in a restaurant, it will cost you more than your groceries. For, instance, a meal in an inexpensive restaurant will cost £14, while a coffee will cost you £3, and a pint of beer will cost £4.5.

Utility Bills

The utility bills take away a huge chunk of your expenses. But, if you choose to stay in student housing, you will have an inclusive bill keeping your budget intact. While Uni Halls have their own policies in this regard. 

Transportation

Leicester has many networks of public transportation that connect the whole city. Buses run through the city all day and up to the universities, too.
