How to convert a 10-point CGPA to a 4-point GPA? CGPA is a 10-point grading system used by universities to measure a student’s academic performance. GPA When you apply for admission to a university, your CGPA is converted into GPA by the admission teams. Each country and university have its own grading system where academic scores are converted into different ones. This page will discuss the conversion and utilization process of a CGPA to a GPA. It is significantly important for applicants seeking change from one academic system to another.

What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. Most universities in India and the Netherlands use this 10-point grading system. It represents your overall academic performance over a course of time. CGPA is used to measure your academic achievement by awarding grades: A, B, C, D, or F. It is the average of grade points earned across all subjects.

What is GPA?

GPA or Grade Point Average is a standard grading method used by universities in the UK. Just like CGPA, it is also used to assess your academic performance but on a 4.0 scale. 4 is considered as the highest GPA and corresponds to an A grade. O corresponds to an F grade.

How to Convert CGPA to GPA?

Understanding how to convert your CGPA to GPA is essential, especially if you’re applying to international universities where the grading systems may differ. Many countries use different scales, but by converting your CGPA to GPA, you can present your academic performance in a globally understood format.

CGPA to GPA Conversion Formula
GPA = (CGPA / Maximum CGPA) * Target GPA scale

GPA = CGPA / 10 X 4

For example: If your CGPA was 8.5 out of 10:
GPA = 8.5 / 10 X 4

Steps to Converting 10 Points CGPA to 4 Points GPA

Here’s a step-by-step guide to convert your 10-point CGPA to a 4-point GPA:

  • Know your CGPA: Your CGPA is given on your academic transcripts.
  • Apply the conversion formula: Use the formula: GPA=CGPA / 10 X 4  Example: If your CGPA is 9.0, the formula would be:  GPA=9.010×4=3.6
  • Consider variations: Some universities may have specific conversion charts, so it’s always good to check their official guidelines.
