Formerly known as Oxford Polytechnic, Oxford Brookes University is a public university in Oxford, England whose roots can be traced back to the founding of the Oxford School of Art in 1865, which occupied a room in an academic library, Taylor Institution. It got its university status in the year 1992 and was renamed to honour its former principal, John Henry Brookes. Oxford Brookes University is the only one of the new universities to be named after its founder. The university is spread across four campuses, with three main campuses based in and around the historic Oxford city, and the fourth campus located in Swindon. The Swindon campus is about 30 miles from Oxford and offers courses in adult nursing, operating department practice, and continuing professional development. The university offers a vibrant, modern community that has over 3,200 international students from more than 130 different countries.
One of the three primary campuses is Headington campus which is located in a residential area of Oxford. Students can also find halls of residence like Crescent Hall, Cheney Student Village, Clive Booth Hall, and more, located on the campus itself. The campus has libraries, 24-hour computer rooms, grounds, shops, study areas, and student accommodations.
