Egham is a university town situated in the northeast of Surrey, approximately 19 miles west of Central London. Ecga’s Ham was granted to the Abbot of Chertsey and remained under the control of Chertsey Abbey for much of the Middle Ages. It was during the reign of King John that Egham would achieve fame when in 1215, Magna Carta was sealed by King John at Runnymede, to the north of Egham. The town offers excellent transport connectivity with good rail links into London. It also has numerous international companies based in the town including Procter and Gamble(P&G) and Blackberry.

Things to do in Egham

Enjoy the Egham Royal Show held every August Bank Holiday in Mrs Caddy's Field, where you can witness vintage car parades, livestock, and live music. There is also a dog show with categories including "dog looking most like owner". In the town you can find a good range of shops, local history can be learned at the Museum in the Literary Institute and there is a huge leisure centre catering for a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities. You can also visit Englefield Green, a bustling village with a huge number of students studying at the local University living there.

The popular Royal Holloway University of London is located between Egham and Englefield Green. This is a public research university which was opened as a college for women in 1886 with a Grade I listed founders building modelled on the French Chateau de Chambrod. The university is spread across a beautiful 135-acre campus in the town with students coming from all over the world to study here.
