It is home to the famous University of Bolton which gained its university status in 2005. It is a public university with around 7,000 students, mostly coming from Bolton and the North West region. The main campus of the university is located on an urban campus between Deane Road and Derby Street in Bolton. There are two halls of residence, although many students opt to live in private accommodation which offers a wide range of student room types such as student studio, shared and en-suite rooms, and apartments.
