Find Student Rooms near Heriot Watt University

Established in 1821 as the worlds first mechanics institute, Heriot-Watt University is the eighth oldest higher education institution in the UK. It was originated as the School of Arts of Edinburgh but went through a number of subsequent name changes and then in 1966, achieved university status and was named Heriot-Watt University. The University boasts multiple campuses, located in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Dubai, Malaysia and Orkney. More than one-third of Heriot-Watt’s 8,000 Edinburgh campus students are from outside the United Kingdom and this international focus is also demonstrated by more than 10,000 students from 130 different countries worldwide enrolled on its international programmes. The university has won awards from the Scottish Council of Development and Industry because of its global focus.

Campus overview

The university's main campus is situated in Riccarton in South West Edinburgh on 380 acres of parkland. The campus is quite vast consisting of - academic buildings, on-campus student residences, a postgraduate centre, local shops, numerous library collections, healthcare facilities, a variety of recreational and sports facilities, and more. The Dubai campus was opened in 2005 and was the very first university campus from a UK based higher education institution to be set up in Dubai International Academic City.
