The origin of Leeds Beckett University (LBU) dates back to 1824 when the Leeds Mechanic Institute was created. Originally, the institution had only two rooms, a classroom and a library, where the pioneers of the industrial powerhouse studied. Gradually, more technical schools opened in the city and combined to form what we know today as Leeds Beckett University.
