The origin of Leeds Beckett University (LBU) dates back to 1824 when the Leeds Mechanic Institute was created. Originally, the institution had only two rooms, a classroom and a library, where the pioneers of the industrial powerhouse studied. Gradually, more technical schools opened in the city and combined to form what we know today as Leeds Beckett University. The university is a technical university and offers a wide range of subjects, encompassing arts and humanities as well as science and technology.
