    Founded in 1836, the University of London is a central research university located in London, United Kingdom. University College London (UCL) was the first university to be founded under the name “London University” in 1826 as a secular alternative to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Later King's College London was founded as an Anglican college by royal charter in 1829 and also become part of this university.
